Emma Truter is an artist focused on directorial practice. Her work considers individual perception variation, the nuanced nature of human emotion and how it manifests itself. Through the creation of obscure sets, she uses photography to document alternate versions of reality that question social norms and the absurdist nature of life. Truter is interested in the semiotics of fashion and movement, considering how poeple use these mask like vessels in daily life. She applies her undergraduate background in philosophy to anyalise the nuanced nature of life and the different ways in which poeple can be affected by thier individual perception, creating cinematic and dramatic scenes and spins tales to accompany them. Truter sees 'set designs' in her travels, often in brutalist architectural spaces, she pairs this with characters she observs along the way, creating narratives in her mind.
Emma Truter holds a Foundation in Art and design (2022) from De Montfort, Leicester, a BA in Philosophy (2025) from The University of Southampton and an MA in contemporary fine arts (2026) from De Montfort University, Leicester.
